Major film retrospective at the Metropolis cinema in Hamburg for Peter Thomas! He was one of the most productive film musicians of his generation. Since the 1960s, he has composed and arranged orchestral music for over 100 cinema films and around 600 television films, winning numerous awards. Metropolis Kino Hamburg is honouring the “sound astronaut” and his film scores in a major retrospective from February to April 2024 with a total of 24 films that showcase Peter Thomas’ musical range.
The retrospective was created together with the music publisher and son Philip Thomas: you can look forward to seeing him in person as well as other prominent guests of honour such as Roswitha Völz, Tim Tremper, Betsy Böttcher, Uschi Glas (audio interview) and Erika Pluhar.
With a big thank you to Elmar Podlasly for this wonderful clip! Click here for the trailer.
To kick off the Peter Thomas retrospective, the Metrolpolis cinema screened all seven episodes of Germany’s best-known science fiction television series in a restored version as a movie marathon with breaks for refreshments until late at night. Roswitha Völz, who danced Galyxo at the Starlight Casino back in the day, was also present. Entertaining and informative documentary about Thomas’ life and working methods with plenty of word and situation comedy as well as illuminating insights into the everyday working life of a film composer. The screening was followed by a panel discussion with composer and label boss Björn Wagner and his son and music publisher Philip Thomas.
We’ll keep you up to date on exciting new projects and upcoming events from Peter Thomas Music.
